What do you think equips you to do this job properly?
I believe my skillset, experience and personality dovetail well into the essentials of the role which are:
- Attention to detail: operations involve managing a large volume of data and transactions with precision and accuracy.
- Problem solving skills: critical thinking to interpret data and situations, and identify solutions for the client.
- Communication skills: communication drives both healthy internal, supplier and client relationships.
In addition to the above a solid understanding of the software systems, and platforms used at Northstar is essential. My technical skills definitely help me to navigate these tools and leverage them effectively.
What do you love about investing?
Although I am not directly involved in the investment process, I find the potential for returns in our client’s portfolios to be a source of great interest and motivation. While investing always carries some level of risk, the opportunity for strong returns, through time, is a compelling aspect of the field. In particular, I enjoy providing reports to clients that showcase growth in their portfolios. Witnessing this growth firsthand is both rewarding and motivating, and it reinforces my commitment to providing the best possible service to our clients.
What do you find the most challenging part of your role to be?
Dealing with complexity: asset management operations can be complex, involving a large volume of data, transactions, and processes. Keeping track of all the moving parts and ensuring that everything is running smoothly can be a significant challenge at times. I constantly, with the team, try and improve our systems usage and find new and alternative ways to enhance our processing and record keeping.
Meeting regulatory requirements: The asset management industry is subject to numerous regulations, and compliance can be a daunting task. Luckily we have a competent compliance officer and we all pull together as a team to ensure that all regulatory requirements are met for all our clients.
Balancing priorities: In operations and administration, I am responsible for a wide range of tasks and projects, each with its own set of priorities. Balancing these priorities and ensuring that deadlines are met can be challenging at times. With a great team dynamic and a smart work ethic we always seem to succeed.
